Public Health Rotations

North Central Montana Area Health Education Center
Student Rural Clinical Rotations-

Registered Nurse and Family Nurse Practioner Program

Policy

The goal of the North Central Montana Area Health Education Center Student Rural Clinical Rotations Program is to support health professions students participating in clinical rotations at rural and underserved sites in Montana. Students will receive travel reimbursement for personal car mileage at 0.30 cents per mile.

If the clinical rotation requires the student to remain over night, housing should be provided by the facility or otherwise be made available at no cost. If assistance is required to arrange this, the North Central AHEC office may be able to help. Under unusual circumstances, the North Central AHEC may choose to provide some housing cost assistance.

Clinical rotations for the Registered Nurse program must be at a Critical Access Hospital (CAH), a rural health clinic, a county public health department, a tribal health service, or a Community Health Center (CHC) in North Central Montana. Priority for student selection for support should go to those in their final year of school.

Clinical rotations for the Family Nurse Practioner program must be at a Critical Access Hospital (CAH), a rural health clinic, a county public health department, a tribal health service, or a Community Health Center (CHC) in North Central Montana. Priority for student selection for support should go to those in their final year of school.

Procedure

The students must complete the application (see attached) and return to the North Central MT AHEC office. Upon completion of the rotation, the student must submit their mileage log and a one-page essay describing their rural rotation experience, outline their future career goals and how this experience in a rural setting has either helped or hampered their idea of working in a rural area. Upon receipt and acceptance of these materials, a check will be mailed to the student.
